Fred Davis Faces Mandatory Jail Time If Convicted Of DWI


LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis will answer to drunk driving charges during a court appearance April 30 stemming from a highly-publicized arrest last week in northern Virginia.

Fairfax County Police have charged Davis with first-offense Driving While Intoxicated while having a blood alcohol content of .15-.20 percent.

Under Virginia law, Davis will receive a mandatory minimum five-day prison sentence and a fine of at least $250 if convicted. The sentence must be served in jail and a judge cannot order a work release or house arrest.

The impending free agent would also be required to have a breathalyzer device installed in his vehicle that would prevent the engine from turning on if Davis has alcohol on his breath.

The commonwealth’s laws against impaired driving are considered among the strictest in the country.
